Sehwan: 12 people drowned in a boat accident during rescuing flood victims

12 people, including women and children, died while 7 people were rescued when a boat carrying flood victims overturned in the Indus river near Sehwan tehsil of Jamshoro District of Sindh.

Officials said that the boat rescuing 25 flood victims near Goth Bilawalpur, 20 km from Sehwan, overturned due to the rapid flow of water in the Indus River, resulting in the death of 12 people, including children and women.

He said that 7 persons were rescued while the search for others is going on and it is feared that they may have died due to the rapid flow of water.

The citizens said that the boat carrying the flood victims was crossing the Indus River when it overturned in the water due to which the accident occurred.

Hyderabad Commissioner Nadeem Rehman Memon said that a rescue operation was started with the help of local divers, Pakistan Navy and district administration in Bilawalpur area of ​​Sehwan, after which 12 bodies were recovered.

The commissioner said that the boat had more passengers than it could accommodate, so the boat overturned.

He said that among the dead are children, women and elderly people who belong to Tillati near Sehwan.

Dr. Moin Siddiqui, director of Syed Abdullah Shah Sehwan Health and Medical Services Institute, said that the bodies have been taken to the hospital. While the search for other missing persons is going on.

He said that 7 flood victims of boat incident were taken to the hospital in unconscious state, who were given basic medical aid.

Following the instructions of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, all the concerned authorities, elected representatives and rescue officials are present in Talti area near River Indus to remove the bodies of more victims.

It should be noted that the water level in the Indus River is continuously increasing due to the floods after the recent rains, so the nearby residents have been instructed to move to safer places.
