Finland tops list of happiest countries, Pakistan overtakes India
Helsinki: Finland has been named the
happiest country in the world for the fifth year in a row in the UN annual
index and Afghanistan is the most unhappy country in the world.
According to the AFP news agency, the
latest list was completed before the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Bulgaria, Romania and Serbia have seen
significant improvements in their rankings in the World Happiness Table
published on Friday, while Lebanon, Venezuela and Afghanistan have dropped
further.
Lebanon, a victim of the economic crisis,
has slipped below Zimbabwe to 145th place, just one place above Afghanistan,
which is at the bottom of the list of 146 countries.
Afghanistan, which last year was the world's
most war-torn country, has fallen further this year due to the worst
humanitarian crisis.
Pakistan's position in this index has
improved and Pakistan is at 103rd position among happy countries while India is
at 136th position in this list.
Co-author of the report, John K. Emmanuel
of New York, said the index was a reminder of the physical and material damage
to war victims.
The World Happiness Report, published for
the tenth year in a row, measures economic and social data. It sets a happiness
score of zero to 10 based on average data over a three-year period.
The list is once again dominated by
Northern Europe, with Denmark second, Finland third, Iceland fourth, the
Netherlands fifth and Norway sixth after Finland.
The United States has moved up three
places to 16th, one place behind the United Kingdom, while France is ranked
20th in its history.
The index is ranked according to the
level of GDP, social assistance, personal freedom and corruption.
This year, the report's authors also used
social media data to compare people's emotions before and after the COD-19
epidemic. As a result, anxiety and sadness have risen sharply in 18 countries,
but anger has subsided.
Jeffrey Sachs, co-author of the report,
writes that the World Happiness Report over the years has taught us that social
co-operation, generosity and honesty in government are essential to the
well-being of the people. That is why world leaders must pay attention to this.
