Well known writer and poet
Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar left the program in a TV program while discussing the
issue of 'Marriage and Divorce'.
Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar had participated
in private TV channel “Lahore Rang” program 'Bolta Lahore' on 19 February 2020 along with social leaders Elia Zahra and Naheed Baig.
Family life including marriages,
divorces, and marital problems for men and women were discussed during the
program. At the beginning of the program, the host Awais Iqbal narrated an
incident in which he met an elderly woman during a trip to the United States.
She got married four times and divorced her four husbands.
Later, the host started the discussion
with the playwright Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar. The playwright warned the host not
to link the stories of western countries with the Pakistani society.
Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar told the host that
he had not need to raise the issue nor did he want to mention four marriages by
an American woman to Pakistani girls.
The playwright told the host to send a
"curse" to the woman who had four marriages on his behalf and at the
same time Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar scolded her for not speaking in the middle.
Social leaders Eliya Zahra and Naheed
Baig, who participated in the program, said in response to the host's questions
that there are many problems in getting divorces from women and they cannot be
linked to any one issue and women also have the right to divorce and remarry
after divorce.
According to women leaders, women are
sometimes seen as child-bearing machines in some families and are subjected to
ridicule and violence over the birth of a daughter.
In response to a question,
Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar clarified that he is not against any four marriages of
any woman and they can do.
According to the playwright, the religion
of Islam and the law also allow women to divorce and get married, but in no way
can Western and Eastern women be compared.
Writer Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar also got
angry when the host repeatedly mentioned four marriages and scolded the host
that he was speaking against religion and who are they to speak against
religion?
Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar accused the hosts
and guests in the middle of the program of speaking against religion by
speaking against four marriages. Speaking on the occasion, female guest Elia
Zahra explained that no one spoke against religion.
Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar was furious when
the female guest spoke in the middle for an explanation and he spoke harshly
not only against the host of the program but also against the guests and took
off the mic and left the program.
The host also asked Khalil-ur-Rehman
Qamar to give the guests a chance and to speak politely to the guests. However,
the playwright left angrily to the host and the guests.
The program was 38 minutes long and
Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar left the program after 19 minutes.
Later, Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar's harsh words against female guests were criticized by people on social media, while host Owais Iqbal also wrote in a tweet that Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar needs to learn how to talk to women.

Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar also used vulgar
language against social leader Marvi Sarmad during a TV program in March 2020
last year.
The playwright has also been criticized
for using inappropriate and harsh language against women, but he himself denies
allegations that he uses vulgar language against women.
