Culture Day also known as Ekta jo Dihaaro is broadly celebrated with
traditional interest to highlight centuries old rich Sindhi culture. This day
is celebrated all over in the province of Sindh as well amongst Sindhi People
settled in other countries of world. This day is the event and illustration of
tradition of Sindhi people, people in Sindh province and Sindhi community all
over the world rejoice this day to illustrate the passive identity of Sindhi tradition
and acquire attention of world towards vast customs and culture Sindhi
community. On this happy day, people gather in all main cities of province at school
grounds, press clubs, and other places to arrange various activities of poetic
and lyric gatherings. Mach Katchehri (arranging
a gathering to sit round in circle shape and ablaze fire on sticks in center), seminars,
musical events, rallies and lectures. This event is representation of ancient
Indus Valley Civilization.
Sindhi
people celebrate this Sindhi Culture day worldwide in first week on first
Sunday of Decembers every year. On this occasion, Sindhi people arrange rallies,
musical programmes and other different events after wearing traditional shawl
called as “Ajrak” and Sindhi Topi in different areas of Sindh in a best try to
mark the day celebration with full zeal. Major points of cities, towns and
villages are dressed up with Ajrak to climax cultural standards of Sindhi
community. People across the province also exchange gifts in shape of Ajrak and
Topi during various events on cultural day.
Women and children also get ready
after wearing the clothes in designs in Ajrak and join themselves in grand
gathering at vast grounds, where popular singers of Sindh sing Sindhi songs and
lyrics depicting message of love and peace in Sindh. Musical performances of these
artists induce audience to dance on Sindhi lyrics, folk songs and other sindhi tunes
like ‘Jeay Sindh Jeay, Sindh Wara Jean’ mor tho tilay rana, ho jamalo etc.
Religious,
political, and social organizations of province, including Civil
Administration, Sindh Culture Department various universities, colleges and schools
also organize selected events like debates, folk musical programs, seminars,
drama and theaters, literary sittings and tableau other events to declare this
event as symbol of annual celebration. Culture Day is also celebrated with the aim to display unity amongst the
Sindhi speaking people.
culture Day (Ekta Day) was celebrated on 6
December 2009 for the first time as Sindhi Topi Day after the criticized
comments of an anchorperson of a private TV Channel namely Dr. Shahid Masood who carped Former President Asif Ali
Zardari due to wearing Sindhi Cap during his
foreign visits. In response of his criticism, Sindh peoples across the country as
well as abroad condemned rigorously the comments of Dr Shahid Masood’s through
social media and other factors, which resulted in the declaration of arranging Sindhi
Topi Day. Afterwards, Sindhi media groups also started to arrange this day as ‘Sindh
Culture Day’. Sindhi language TV channels including Sindh TV, KTN, Awaz TV, and,
Kashish and Mehran TV record special programs as well as broadcast live on the event
of Culture Day every year.
