Qaim Ali Shah

Syed Qaim Ali Shah Jillani has served as the elected CM of Sindh for three tenures. His last two tenures combined, a total of eight years, makes him the longest serving Chief Minister of Sindh. He is Sindh President of the Pakistan Peoples Party and an elected Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) from PS-26 (Khairpur-1). 
He born on 13 Sep 1933 in the parentage of  Syed Ramzan Ali Shah Jillani in Khairpur Mirs. Shah's household was counted amongst more influential and educated families. After completing his early education at Naz High School, Shah's family married him to a relative. Shah then proceeded to Karachi for higher education. In Karachi, he passed BA from Karachi University and later, he received a LLB from S. M. Law College. During the course of his studies at Sindh Muslim Law College, he benefited from the company and guidance of his then professor, Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, building a bond that would last for the duration of his professor's life.

His first marriage was done by his parents during his teenage years with a cousin. After Shah completing his education at Karachi he arranged his second marriage to Husn Afroze Brohi, sister of A. K. Brohi with the consents of his parents. Neither of his wives moved out. His second wife, Husn Afroze died in the late 1970s due to breast cancer. His 2^nd wife also died after a few years due to terminal illness a few years later. After several years, he married with his current wife with the wishes of his family and friends.

He has four children from his first marriage i.e Syed Muzaffar Ali Shah, Dr. Syed Liaquat Ali Shah, Shamshad Shah and Najma Shah. Whereas he has Syed Asad Ali Shah, Dr. Nusrat Shah, Naheed Shah Durrani, Nuzhat Shah, his sister Dr. Nighat Shah, Dr. Nafisa Shah, and Syed Afzal Shah are his children from his 2^nd marriage.

Qaim Asli Shah started his political after becoming Chairman of Khairpur's district council during Field Marshal Ayub Khan’s system of Basic Democracy during 1960s. His close affiliation with Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto led to PPP.

He contested GE-1970 from PPP platform at Khairpur Mirs and defeated his opponents, Comrade Syed Baqir Ali Shah. During this tenure PM Zulqikar Ali Bhutto appointed Qaim Ali Shah as Federal Minister for Industries and Kashmir Affairs.

Qaim Ali Shah was arrested along with Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and other cabinet ministers during grudges with Zia Ul Haq in 1977. Unlike other PPP important persons who either left PPP or became inactive, Qaim Ali Shah remained loyal to the party. During the eleven years of Gen. Zia-ul-Haq’s rule, he and members of his family suffered imprisonment, torture and his accounts and property were seized.  After General Zia's death and Benazir Bhutto’s return to the country, he was appointed the president of PPP-Sindh in recognition of his services to the Movement for Restoration of Democracy (MRD) and PPP. 
His landslide victory in the 1988 elections from his constituency, Khairpur Mirs, paved way for becoming as 17^th CM on 2 December 1988.

Qaim Ali Shah was elected as a MPA  during the elections of 1990, 1993, 2002 and 2008. He lost the only election of his career in 1997. Later, he made a bid for a senate seat, and won his first and only senate term in late 1997.

He won seven out of eight elections he contested,  and became six times MPA, 1x time MNA and senator once. Shah completed his 2nd term as CM Sindh on 21 March 2013. He was once again, for the third time, elected to as CM after the GE 2013. In July 2016, PPP leadership decided to replace Qaim Ali Shah with Murad Ali Shah as CM Sindh.
