Sindh Culture Department has announced treatment of Pakistan’s popular Comedian, actor and host Umar Sharif after he sought the help of Prime Minister to facilitate travel abroad for medical treatment and provide visa facilities
On the other hand, Federal Government is also
busy in making arrangements for his treatment abroad.
Sindh Culture Minister Syed Sardar Shah
expressed his best wishes for Umar Sharif and pray that he may recover soon. He
said that Umar Sharif is national asset. The minister said that he was saddened
after hearing after listening illness news of the actor and that the Sindh Culture
Department would treat him wherever Umar Sharif wants.
Syed Sardar Shah said that Umar Sharif is
an example for Pakistanis in comedy. He is like an institution in itself. Culture
Department has been ever with Umar Sharif.
On the other hand, Dr. Shahbaz Gul,
Special Assistant to Prime Minister for Political Relations, elaborated about
the government's efforts to treat Umar Sharif from abroad. He said through a tweet
that he was in contact with Foreign Ministry as well as all other concerned
agencies regarding treatment of Umar Sharif and arrangements were being made
for his visa and travel documents.
It is pertinent to mention that TV show
host Waseem Badami had released a special message from Umar Sharif in his
program “Eleventh Hour”.
He appealed to Prime Minister Imran Khan
for help through video message and said that doctors have advised him that he
should go to abroad to get better treatment".
He further said in message that "I
was amongst those lucky persons who assisted Imran to raise his Shaukat Khanum
Cancer Hospital," he said in the video message that “I, Umar Sharif addressing
to Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan that whenever you started to work and
called me, I have always responded to you, so I am sure you will respond to me.
Responding to his video, Dr. Shahbaz Gill had said that he would convey this message of Umar Sharif to Prime Minister and would personally contact the three countries from which he is being treated and Government will assist him whatever would be possible.
Later on, yesterday a brief explanatory
post was made on Umar Sharif's official Facebook account from his Zarin Ghazal and
son Jawad Umar that they have only sought help for provision visa facilities from
government.
It may be noted that rumors about the illness
of well-known comedian and actor spread in late August 2020 when a picture of Umar
Sharif's apparently ill condition sitting on wheelchair was shared on social
media. Later, on 4 &5 September, rumors about his death were also circulating
on social media. But Umar Sharif's family spoke angrily to DawnNews.tv about
the rumors and confirmed his well-being. Initially, his family did not confirm
his illness. However, the family later admitted that the comedian and host were
being treated at a hospital and due to cardiac issues.
Omar Sharif's illness was also reported during
2017, after his picture on a hospital bed went viral, however, his family
issued an explanation statement.
Umar Sharif has gained lot of popularity
not only in the country but also abroad. He has worked in showbiz industry for
almost 5 decades and has appeared in dozens of dramas, stage theaters and live
shows. He has also performed in films of Pakistan. He started his career during
1974 from stage acting and he had released first audio cassette of his drama
during 1980.
