Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim



Arbab Ghulam Rahim s/o Arbab Taj Muhammad born on 1 Jan 1957 at Dıplo Tehsıl, District Tharparkar. He is the youngest of 5 siblings. He grown up in traditional environment and acquired his primary education in his native village; later he studied in Mirpurkhas upto 7th grade. He passed 8th class from Cadet College Petaro, one of the few reputed institutions of Sindh at that time. He joined Petaro in 1971 and completed. After passing out as House Captain he left the college in 1976. He joined Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences at Jamshoro for study in medicines, but later he transferred to Jinnah Sindh Medical University, Karachi and acquired MBBS degree.  He has two wives and six sons in his family. Besides politicians, he is landlord having hundreds of agricultural lands, plots, residential flats and vehicles costing to billions rupees. His sons have also some career in sindh politics and have participated in different elections in Tharparkar District.
Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim started his political career from 1983 after contesting in local government elections during which was elected as Nazim of Mirpur Khas District. Afterwards he constantly won general elections during 1990, 1993, 1998 and 2000 as MPA. During these winning elections, he constantly changed his party affiliation. He continued his politics sometimes on the ticket of PPP and sometimes he became supporter of PML-N. He was elected as member of Sindh Provincial Assembly during general elections 2002 from PML-Q Platform in PS-60 constituency (District Tharparkar) after defeating Engineer Gianchand Meghwar and later he was elected as 27th CM Sindh in 2004 and remained CM upto 2007.
Arbab Ghulam Rahim was hit in his head with a shoe by a supporter of PPP in 2008 over harsh difference with PPP. He usually goes to Provincial Assembly; due to his accuses with ruling party of trying to disgrace him in assembly. He contested during GE-2008; however he could not succeed and left country to live in UAE in self-imposed exile. On 13 Mar 2013, he returned back to Pakistan.
In his family, there are also some political conflicts amongst his family since, his nephew Arbab Lutufllah joined PPP in Jul 2017.  In response, he addressed his followers during his meeting at Bhitaro farmhouse during which, he instructed his followers not to support his nephew, for his decision to join PPP. Moreover, he said in an address that he tried to deter his nephew Arbab Lutufullah from defecting to PPP but he did not agree and his effort was in vain.
During month of Oct 2017, PTI MNA and Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and President Muhammad Arif Alvi alongwith other PTI member held a meeting with Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim and proposed him to join PTI. During the meeting, he agreed and said that he will organize a meeting at Mirpurkhas during which he will announce for joining PTI. During general elections of 2018, he contested from GDA Platform at NA-219 (Mirpur Khas 2) but could not succeed and his differing contestant Mir Munawar Ali Talpur from PPP Platform won the seat.
