Doctor Nabi Bakhsh Baloch, who has served for the nation and vacuum in his absence cannot be filled
Dr. Nabi Bakhsh Khan Baloch son of Ali
Muhammad Khan Laghari Balcoh was born on 16 December 1917 in Village Jaffar
Khan Laghari, Taluka Sinjhoro, District Sanghar. He was a renowned scholar,
writer, linguist, folk literature composers, author of Sindhi Folklore, researchers
on history and other aspects of Sindh as well as Country. Nabi Bakhsh was
termed as moving library of Sindhi Language.
Education
Nabi Bakhsh Baloch got admitted in
Primary School Paliyo Khan Laghari during 1924 to acquire primary education.
Later, he studied in Village Jamrao 22 of District Sanghar. Nabi Bakhsh Baloch
dot admission in famous madrasah of Naushahro Feroze during 1929. This maddarsa
is is famous now a days as “Alhando Shah Madarisa High School”.
he passed BA (honors) during 1941 in
first division (third position). During 1943, Nabi Bakhsh Baloch passed MA
Examination in First Division (first position) from Muslim University Ali Garh
as well as passed advocacy examination during the same year from the same
university.
Due to acquiring first position in MA, British
government of India provided him scholarship for higher studies at Colombia
University. Subsequently, during 1947, Doctor Nabi Bakhsh balcoh went New York,
to acquire MA (Education) from Colombia University where, he passed Ph.D as
well during 1949.
Career
After passing Ph.D, Colombia University
authorities offered Doctor Nabi Bakhsh Baloch for his services, but he rejected
their offer and returned back to Pakistan. After returning back, Dr Nabi Bakhsh
Baloch played important role for development of Sindh and Pakistan. His Services
for the nations are as under
Establishment of Sindh University
During 1950, Dr Nabi Bakhsh Baloch was
appointed as Public Relation Officer at Damascus, but he resigned from his job and opted to establish Sindh
University on the motivation of Doctor Allama I.I Kazi.
Subsequently,
he became the first professor of Sindh University on its establishment during
September 1951.
Later, he
was appointed as Dean of Faculty of Education and Literature Department of
Sindh University. Doctor Baloch also remained as Vice Chancellor of Sindh
University from 1973 to 1976.
Services except establishment of Sindh University
Doctor Nabi Bakhsh Baloch remained as
special secretary of Education and Literature in Ministry of Federal Education
from 1976 to 1979. In the same period, he also remained as member of Federal
Review Board.
He remained as director of National
Institute of History and Culture (which was called later Institute of Islamic
History, Culture and Civilization) from Jul to Oct 1979.
Doctor Baloch remained as vice chancellor
of International Islamic University from 22 November 1980 to Aug 1983.
He remained advisor of National Hijra
Council Islamabad from 1983 to 1989.
Doctor Nabi Bakhsh Baloch remained chairman
and founder of National Language Authority from 1989 to 1991.
Doctor Baloch also remained as caretaker provincial
minister Sindh for Education, Agriculture and Wild Life Protection.
Doctor Nabi Bakhsh remained honorary director
on the Chair Allama I.I Kazi from 1991 to 2011.
Besides he has served for the nation on
different projects and provided his services in development of education and
research on Moen Jo Daro, Lok Virsa Researches etc
Services provided in terms of Sindhi Language Development and literature
Doctor Baloch wrote edited upto 200 books.
His every book is considered as best example of hardworking. Nabi Baksh Baloch
was feeling to be proud on 10 volumes about life and poetry of Shah Abdul Latif
Bhitai.
Sindhi to Sindhi Dictionary
A Project started under Sindhi Adabi
Board during 1954 under the supervisor of Doctor Nabi Bakhsh Baloch. He made
efforts to compose Sindhi to Sindhi Language Dictionary with the assistance of
professors, researchers and scholars of Sindh and completed the project under
his personal supervision.
Urdu to Sindhi and Sindhi to Urdu Dictionary
On the desires of Allama I.I Kazi, Doctor
Nabi Baksh Baloch planned to compose Urdu to Sindhi and Sindhi to Urdu dictionary
under the supervision of Sindh University. He worked on this project with the assistance
of Doctor Ghulam Mustafa Khan during 1959 to 1960.
Sindhi Folk Literature
Sindhi Adabi Board approved compilation of
Sindhi Folk Literature during 1956. Doctor Nabi Bakhsh Baloch was assigned
supervision of this project. While accomplishing his duties, Doctor Nabi Bakhsh
Baloch contacted various folk poets, folk story writers and elders of Sindh. These
important personalities provided contents to Dr Nabi Bakhsh Baloch.
The content provided was consisting of Sindhi
Folk Stories, Sindhi Folk poetry, Sindhi Folk Stories of Love, Sindhi Kafis, Sindhi
Naats, stories of different miracles happened in Sindh, Folk Songs, Sindhi
wedding songs and much more.
Besides, Doctor Nabi Bakhsh Baloch himself
wrote over a dozen of volumes on literature. Subsequently, forty volumes of
Sindhi Folk Literature were published under the supervision of Sindhi Adabi
Board.
Composition of Shah Jo Risalo
Doctor Nabi Bakhsh Baloch made efforts and
got printed 10 authentic volumes of Shah Jo Risalo. Besides, he compiled
different poetry of Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai.
Services to compile Sindhi classical music
Doctor Nabi Bakhsh Baloch compiled poetry
of different Sindhi Classical poets. He himself also wrote on the life style of
these Sindhi classical poets and history of Sindhi classical poetry. He has
almost written eighteen books on Sindhi classical music which include Sindhi
classical poetry, biographies of Sindhi classical poets and history of Sindhi
Classical music and poetry.
Urdu Books
Dr Nabi Bakhsh Baloch also wrote
approximately five books in Urdu on poetry and education.
Persian Books
Dr Baloch was also well conversant of Persian
language. He has written about 10 books in Persian language about history of
Sindh, biographies and poetry of some Sindhi people.
Arabic Books
He has also edited some of Arabic Books
of Sindh Education Department.
English Books
Doctor Baloch has written about 10 books
about Education in Pakistan, Sindhi Culture, Advent of Islam in Indonesia,
Musical instruments of Indus Valley, Traditions of Hyderabad Region etc.
Rewards Achieved by Doctor Nabi Bakhsh

Doctor Nabi Bakhsh Baloch was awarded many

President’s Pride of Performance during

Sitar-e-Imtiaz during 2001

Doctor Nabi Baksh Baloch expired on 6
April 2011 at Hyderabad at the age of 93 years. He was buried at Sindh
University Jamshoro near the grave of Allam I.I Kazi. He left behind his five
sons and three daughters.
