MBBS Student Committed Suicide over Blackmailing

A woman was found dead after being shot in a house in Ward 5 of Sita Road Town in Dadu District

The woman was identified as Asmat Rajput, a fourth-year MBBS student of People's University of Medical and Health Sciences for Women in Nawabshah.

It is learned that she was being blackmailed by some people, who had prepared a fake marriage certificate and were extorting money from her.

Area Station House Officer (SHO) Gul Baig Khatian along with his subordinates shifted the body of Khalid Jamil Rajput's daughter from his house to Sita Road Hospital for autopsy.

According to Dadu SSP Ijaz Ahmed Sheikh, Asmat was allegedly blackmailed by a man named Shamim Solangi with his son Faiz Solangi who claimed that Asmat had secretly married her.

Police said that Shamim Solangi had prepared a fake marriage certificate to get money from Asmat.

According to the SSP, Asmat committed suicide by shooting herself and during the search, the last letter allegedly written to his father was also found.

The SSP said the woman had told her father everything, she was facing a few days before taking this drastic step.

A case has been registered at Sita Road police station against two witnesses, Shamim Solangi, Faiz Solangi and three others for preparing fake marriage certificate at the request of the victim's father Khalid Rajput, the police officer said.

The petitioner quoted his daughter as saying that she had paid a lot of money to the blackmailers and had deposited Rs. 90,000 in Shamim Solangi's account just a month ago.

The father said that he had already registered an FIR against the accused in the local police station before his daughter committed suicide.

Police said they seized the woman's laptop, mobile phone and diary, as well as a suicide note, and sent her for forensic examination.

In addition, a three-member team headed by DSP Muhammad Younis Rodhanani has been formed to investigate the matter and will submit its report to SSP Dadu Ijaz Ahmed Sheikh within seven days.

The DSP said that from the initial information gathered by the hospital sources and the district administration, it has surfaced that this is clearly a case of suicide.

Police have so far not been able to arrest the accused and their possible hideouts are being raided.
