Women are not safe in the country, Playwright Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar

Well known playwright and author Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar, while acknowledging 'feminism' and 'feminist' for the first time, said that the dignity of women are not safe in our country.

Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar has previously termed feminists as European and foreign agenda and against country's traditions.

However, while talking about the recent attack on TikToker girl at the Greater Iqbal Park in Lahore by hundreds of people, Khalil Ur Rehman admitted that "feminists" are right that women are not safe in Pakistan.

Speaking on Bol News program 'Bas Buhut Hogaya, Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar also expressed his indignation over the harassment of Ayesha Ikram by the crowd near Minar-e-Pakistan on the occasion of Independence Day.

The playwright said that since he came to know about the incident, he has been wondering how and what to talk about it.

He termed the attackers as "thugs" and termed the incident as disgrace to the country. He said that after the tragedy, how will one face the world media, and how will one defend the fact that a woman in an Islamic country was not attacked by 400 men?

The playwright said that world media and people will ask what kind of Islamic Republic of Pakistan it is! a helpless woman was attacked where the resolution of Pakistan was presented?

Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar said that he was unable to admit that the victim was alone there. There was crowd of people there but sadly, there was no honorable man who risked his life to save the lady.

In response to a question, the playwright said that the incident was reported late when the police arrived two and a half hours late despite receiving the information and the beasts kept biting the unarmed woman.

He questioned the mental health and training of those involved in the incident, blaming parents, society, films, dramas and social media. He said that he must have learned such things from somewhere.

The playwright criticized the people who were heard saying after the incident that why did the TikToker woman need to go there alone?

On this, Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar said that he thinks that 'feminists' are right in saying that women are not safe in the country. He said that he should admit that the honor and dignity of women in the country is not safe and this is not a one and a half incident.

It may be recalled that the TikToker woman was harassed by hundreds of people on the occasion of Independence Day near Minar-e-Pakistan, after which a First Information Report (FIR) was lodged on 17 August 2021.

According to the FIR lodged at Lari Ada Police Station, Lahore, the complainant has alleged that she was filming near Minar-e-Pakistan with six others on the occasion of Independence Day, 300 to 400 people attacked them all. Penal Code of Pakistan Section, 382, 147 and 149 have been registered in the FIR
