Ghulam
Murtaza Khan Jatoi son of Ghulam Mustafa Jatoi was born on 4 September 1958 at Village
New Jatoi, District Naushahro Feroze. His father was also renowned politicians
and remained care taker Prime Minister in 1989. He got his primary education
from Grand Folks School and St. Patrick's College whereas; he passed graduation
and Masters from Sindh University Jamshoro. Reportedly, he joined Petaro Cadet College
in 1972 but he left it after one month or so. He also spent two years at San
Jacinto College in Texas but he could not acquire bachelor degree from the
college.
Ghulam
Murtaza joined his political career in 1979 after elected as Chairman District
Council of Nawabshah. Later, he contested on provincial assembly seat for the
first time in 1988 and was elected as member Sindh Assembly. Subsequently, he was
appointed as minister for Sindh Government and he remained on this seat from
1988 - 1990. Ghulam Murtaza jatoi was elected as member of national assembly for
first time during general elections 1990. After winning as MNA, he was
appointed as Minister of Communications from 1990 to 1992. He was reelected as MNA
for second time during general elections 1993 and was appointed as Minister for
Overseas Pakistanis for a sometime.

contested on the seat of provincial assembly in general elections 1997 and
became MPA again subsequently; he was appointed as provincial minister for Irrigation.
As per reports, he had to contest general elections in 2000 but he was
ineligible due to not having Bachelor degree, therefore he had sit in exams at
Sindh University Jamshoro; later he acquired degree of Bachelor as well as Masters.
Afterwards, he became provincial member of Sindh Assembly during bye elections
held during 2004. He had also took the charge as Advisor to Chief Minister Sindh
on Agriculture and remained on this seat from 2004 - 2007. After death of his
father Ghulam Mustafa Jatoi in Nov 2009, he took over his father’s party
command and became party president of NPP.
Ghulam Murtaza
was reelected as member of National Assembly for third time during general
elections 2008. Later, he merged his party (National Peoples Party) with
PML-N of Nawaz Sharif.
Ghulam
Murtaza was reelected as member of National Assembly during general elections
of 2013 and was appointed as Minister of Industries and Production in Sharif's
third government. However, he had left ministerial
office during July 2017 when federal cabinet was disbanded due to resignation
of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Panama Papers case. However, he took over charge
of Industry and Production again after becoming Shahid Khaqan Abbasi as Prime
Minister during August 2017, which he left on 31 May 2018, after dissolution of
National Assembly due to expiration of its term.
Before
commencement of General election 2018, he merged National Peoples Party with Grand
Democratic Alliance (GDA) which was recently emerged before general elections, subsequently;
he contested as member of national assembly from NA-212 constituency on GDA seat
but he lost after winning the constituency by Zulifqar Ali Behan belonging to Pakistan
Peoples Party.
Ghulam
Murtaza Jatoi has four children. He has ancestral lands and other property at his
hometown New Jatoi, however he mostly lives Karachi where his other family
members are also settled.
