Ghulam Muhammad Gulab born on 6 January 1958 in a
farmer's house at village Shahmir Chandio of District Nawabshah.
He completed his matric and intermediate
education from his village. In 1976, he went Karachi and got a job as a clerk
in the food department. In 1978, he returned to Nawabshah as he had to go to jail for participating in
protests after death sentence of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto.
Gulab started his profession as television
actor in the early 1980's and began his career with Sindhi dramas. Gulab Chandio got his major breakthrough on
PTV as a Sindhi language actor. Soon he proved his versatility and started
getting major roles in Urdu dramas as well. According to another source, his
first drama was Khan Sahib in 1980. He appeared in various dramas and TV
series. Zeenat, Rosh, Noori Jam Tamachi, Tipu Sultan, and Talash are some of
his famous dramas.
He has also acted in theater dramas and
films. His first film was Dushman in which he played the role of an actor. He
also played a lead role in another Sindhi film “Mohib Shaidi released in 1990”.
He also appeared in Syed Noor's film “Sargam” in 1995. Overall, he has took
part in more than 300 Urdu and Sindh Dramas and 6 Pakistani films. The actor was recognized for his impeccable
dialogue delivery and a wide portfolio of work. Despite villainous characters
being his claim to fame, he also played the hero in several Sindhi serials.
Gulab Chandio also participated in
political activities and contested general elections twice from Nawabshah and
Karachi but he lost in both. In 2016, he had joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
In 2016, he was awarded the Presidential Medal “Tamgha Hussn Karkardgi” for his
services to art and drama.
He passed away on 18 Jan, 2019 in
Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Karachi. Gulab Chandio was suffering from diabetes and heart
disease since long.
